Tiny Sprout: An Award-Winning EdTech Platform
Project Overview
Sprout is a story-driven EdTech platform that connects underserved students in Phuket with global volunteer mentors through playful lessons, character guides, and career-readiness tools that build confidence, digital literacy, and real-world skills.
Key Insight
Student Context
Learners aged 8–15 lacked structured access to English practice and design tools but showed high motivation when content was hands-on and culturally relatable.
Mentor Needs
Volunteers needed a frictionless signup, clear onboarding (including Canva training), and simple scheduling/dashboard controls to manage sessions across time zones.
Technical Constraints
Predominant mobile usage and variable internet speeds required lightweight pages, concise media, and offline-friendly components.
Emotional Engagement
Character-driven storytelling and community features (peer showcases, discussion boards) were critical to sustaining both mentor and student participation.
Design Challenge
How might we build a scalable, playful platform that:
1. Onboards mentors quickly and securely, with minimal setup friction?
2. Guides students through intuitive, character-led lessons despite low digital literacy.
3. Facilitates scheduling and session management without heavy development resources?
4. Fosters an ongoing community and portfolio development in a no-code MVP environment?
Notable Achievements
Partnerships
Pilot involved two Phuket schools and twenty vetted volunteers, with marked improvements in student English performance. Two international schools joined to offer volunteering as part of their curricula.
Comprehensive Business Model
Adopted a freemium model: core features free, premium resources for partners. One-for-one merchandise sales fund student access.
